NIT Agartala to Hold National Seminar on Indian Language Family Under NEP 2020

The Department of Management, Humanities and Social Sciences at National Institute of Technology Agartala will conduct a one-day national seminar titled “Bharatiya Bhasha Pariwar: Perspectives on Linguistic Unification and Cultural Preservation in the Context of NEP 2020” on January 12, 2026. The seminar is being sponsored by the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and will include expert lectures and scholarly presentations.
The academic programme is structured into three sessions. Session I, scheduled from 11:20 a.m. to 1:50 p.m., will feature addresses by Prof. Niladri Sekhar Dash of the Linguistic Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata; Prof. Shailendra Kumar Singh from the Department of Linguistics, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong; Dr. Yumnam Oken Singh from the Department of Basic Science and Humanities, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, Central Agricultural University, Imphal; Dr. Umesh Chandra Mishra of the Department of Vyakarana, Central Sanskrit University, Ekalavya Campus, Agartala; and Dr. Niranjan Uppoor from the Department of Linguistics and Tribal Languages, Tripura University. A lunch break is scheduled from 1:51 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Session II, from 3:01 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., will include talks by Dr. Bijayanti Devi Haobam of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, ICFAI University, Agartala, and Dr. Biman Debbarma, Linguistic Officer, Department of Kokborok, Tripura University.
Session III, beginning at 4:01 p.m., will feature research paper presentations by scholars Kavitha T A, Aniva Sukul, Sanchari Chattopadhyay, Debasmita Nag, and Archana Akham, with each presentation allotted ten minutes until 4:50 p.m. The seminar will conclude with a valedictory session scheduled from 4:51 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The seminar aims to examine the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, with a focus on promoting linguistic unity while safeguarding India’s diverse cultural and language heritage. The discussions are expected to contribute meaningfully to ongoing discourse on language policy and education in the country.
