NIT Meghalaya Fixes January 23, 2026 for PhD Admissions (Spring Semester)

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya has fixed January 23, 2026, as the admission date for candidates selected to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme for the Spring Semester 2026. The admissions follow completion of a multi-stage selection process for full-time and sponsored part-time scholars across several academic disciplines.

The PhD programme, commencing in January 2026, spans departments including Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical and Biological Sciences, Mathematics, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Research Areas

Research domains cover a wide range of advanced topics such as structural engineering materials, blockchain technologies, MEMS and semiconductor devices, modern power systems, heat pipes and vortex generators, liquid crystal modelling, organic synthesis, ring theory, and studies in English literature, psychology, sociology, and management.

Eligibility Criteria

Full-time candidates must possess:

• A Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, or allied disciplines with first class or minimum 60 percent marks (6.5 CGPA),
  or
• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with 75 percent marks and a valid GATE score.

All full-time applicants must qualify in the institute’s written test and interview.

Sponsored part-time candidates require:

• A Master’s degree with at least 60 percent marks, or
• A Bachelor’s degree with 60 percent marks,

along with relevant work experience—either five years post-bachelor’s (including two years in the current organization) or three years post-master’s (with two years in the current organization). The upper age limit is 58 years, with relaxations as per government norms.

Application Fee

The application fee is ₹1,000 for General/OBC candidates and ₹500 for SC/ST candidates. Women candidates and persons with disabilities are exempted. Fees are payable through the State Bank of India Collect system.

Application and Selection Timeline

Applications were submitted online, followed by emailing a printed application along with scanned documents. Required documents included proof of age, academic qualifications, category certificates (where applicable), sponsorship or NOC for sponsored candidates, research publications (if any), disability certificates, fee receipts, and government-issued identity proof.

• Written test and interview: January 20–21, 2026
• Final selection list: January 22, 2026
• Admission and enrollment: January 23, 2026
