NIT Meghalaya Seeks Industry Experts for Professor of Practice Posts

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya has issued a rolling advertisement inviting applications from experienced industry and research professionals for appointment as Professors of Practice on a full-time or part-time basis, the institute said on Wednesday.
The initiative aims to bring professionals from industry and R&D organisations into the academic ecosystem to strengthen teaching, promote innovation and enhance industry–institute collaboration.
According to the notification, applications will be screened periodically, and there is no fixed deadline for submission.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in technical, managerial or research roles in industry or recognised R&D organisations. Eligible candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Master’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities, Management, Education or allied fields. A PhD is desirable but not mandatory.
The positions are not open to serving faculty members, though retired professionals from industry and research organisations are eligible.
Remuneration
Selected candidates will be offered either:
- Full-time appointment with a fixed monthly remuneration of ₹1,59,100, or
- Part-time engagement with a payment of ₹5,000 per day of participation, excluding travel days.
Role and responsibilities
Professors of Practice will be expected to contribute to course development, student mentoring, collaborative research, industry partnerships and innovation activities. The institute said the roles are intended to bridge academic learning with real-world industrial and research experience.
Application process
Applicants must submit their applications in the prescribed format, along with supporting documents, including details of professional achievements, patents, publications and contributions to research or training.
The hard copy of the application must be sent to the Registrar, NIT Meghalaya, Saitsohpen, Sohra–793108, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, with the name of the post clearly marked on the envelope. A soft copy may also be emailed to [email protected].
Candidates who have already applied against this advertisement are not required to reapply.
Tenure
Appointments will initially be for one year, extendable up to three years or until the age of 70, subject to performance review and institutional requirements. The appointments will be purely contractual, and do not confer any claim to permanent employment.
