Assam University Announces Appointments of Deans for Academic Schools

Assam University, Silchar, has appointed six faculty members as Deans and Deans-in-charge of various schools, with effect from specified dates in 2026.

The order, issued on December 18, 2025, under reference No. 102/3/2020-Estt/9882-86 and signed by the Registrar, follows ratification by the Executive Council.

The appointments are as follows:

• Prof. Atri Deshamukhya, Department of Physics, as Dean, Albert Einstein School of Physical Sciences, effective February 17, 2026, for three years.
• Prof. Bijaya Kumar Behera, Sociology, as Dean, Jadunath Sarkar School of Social Sciences, effective February 23, 2026, for three years.
• Prof. Bijaya Kumar Behera as Dean-in-charge, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan School of Philosophy, effective February 23, 2026, until further orders.
• Prof. Arup Barman, Business Administration, as Dean, Jawaharlal Nehru School of Management, effective January 1, 2026, for three years.
• Prof. Atri Deshamukhya as Dean-in-charge, Sushruta School of Medical & Paramedical Sciences, effective March 3, 2026, until further orders.
• Prof. H. Nani Kumar Singh, Manipuri, as Dean, Rabindranath Tagore School of Indian Languages & Cultural Studies, effective June 6, 2026, for three years.
  
  The appointees are required to exercise powers and perform duties in accordance with the university’s Acts, Statutes, Ordinances, and Regulations. A proper handing and taking over of charge must be completed, with a report submitted to the Vice-Chancellor.

In cases where the transition occurs after the expiry of the current three-year term, the incumbent Dean shall continue as Dean-in-charge until the process is completed.

These appointments provide administrative leadership to the respective schools under the university’s governance framework.
