Assam University Invites Hostel Applications from Newly Admitted PhD Scholars

Assam University, Silchar, has invited applications from newly admitted PhD scholars of the 2025–26 academic session for allotment of on-campus hostel accommodation. The last date for submission of applications is January 9, 2026, up to 4:00 pm.
According to an official notification dated December 22, 2025 (Ref. No. AU/DSWO/Hostel/2025), the notice has been issued by Anup Kumar Dey, Dean of Students’ Welfare. Eligible candidates must submit their completed application forms in the prescribed format to the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare, located on the ground floor of the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Administrative Building.
Hostel Capacity and Facilities
Assam University operates nine hostels—four for boys and five for girls—with a total accommodation capacity of approximately 749 seats in single and shared rooms.
Boys’ Hostels:
APJ Abdul Kalam Chatra Niwas (60 seats)
Kaji Nazrul Islam Chatra Niwas (90 seats)
Sahid Khudiram Bose Chatra Niwas (46 seats)
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Chatra Niwas (120 seats)
Girls’ Hostels:
Ambedkar Chatri Niwas (99 seats)
Baghini Nevedita Chatri Niwas (46 seats)
Begum Rokeya Chatri Niwas (100 seats)
Ladies Hostel-06 (100 seats)
Mother Teresa Chatri Niwas (61 seats)
Sahid Kamala Chatri Niwas (131 seats)
Hostel residents are provided with basic furniture including beds, study tables, chairs, and cupboards or almirahs. Additional facilities include 24-hour electricity with generator backup, campus-wide Wi-Fi and internet connectivity, regular water supply, bathroom facilities, and routine cleaning and maintenance services. Residents also have shared access to the central library, laboratories, medical centre, sports facilities, and campus transport services.
Fee and Allotment Policy
The annual hostel fee is approximately ₹25,000 for both boys’ and girls’ hostels. Allotment is subject to availability, as hostel seats are limited and governed by university rules and guidelines.
The notification has been circulated to the Hostel Allotment Committee, Registrar, Deans, Heads of Departments, Wardens, and other concerned authorities, with instructions for uploading it on the official university website.
This hostel allotment process aims to provide residential support to newly admitted PhD scholars by effectively utilising the university’s on-campus housing infrastructure.
