NIT Silchar Details Wide Range of Scholarship Opportunities for Students

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar has outlined a comprehensive range of scholarship opportunities for students through a dedicated section on its official website, aimed at supporting higher education through financial assistance at both national and international levels.
The available scholarships cater to diverse student groups, including students with disabilities, meritorious candidates, economically disadvantaged learners, and research scholars, along with provisions for institutional assistantship renewals.
Support for Students with Disabilities
The Bharti Infratel Scholarship Programme, launched in 2016 as part of the corporate social responsibility initiative of Bharti Infratel Ltd. in collaboration with Shishu Sarothi, focuses on empowering students with disabilities across North East India.
The programme supports 120 students pursuing studies from higher secondary to postgraduate levels in government-recognized institutions of national importance. Ten percent of the slots are reserved for students from outside the region studying in North Eastern institutions. The scholarship covers tuition fees until course completion, along with assistance for study materials, assistive devices, conveyance, and hostel expenses for selected candidates.
International Study Opportunities
The Chinese Government Scholarship (2019–20) invited applications from Indian nationals for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, general scholar, and senior scholar programmes, with 39 slots available. Eligibility criteria varied by programme, with age limits ranging from under 25 for undergraduate applicants to under 50 for senior scholars.
The scholarship followed guidelines of the Chinese government, with outward airfare funded by the Government of India. Applications were submitted through the portals of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the China Scholarship Council. A mandatory one-year Chinese language course preceded academic study, with no exemptions.
Merit-cum-Means Scholarships
The Swami Dayanand Charitable Educational Foundation offered merit-cum-means scholarships for students enrolled in engineering, medical, pharmacy, architecture, and IT programmes. Eligibility included a minimum of 85 percent in Class XII, competitive exam rank thresholds, enrollment in eligible institutions, and annual family income below ₹6 lakh. Thirty percent of the scholarships were reserved for women.
The selection process involved two-stage online registration, followed by document submission, a 500-word handwritten essay on personal challenges, and details of extracurricular involvement.
Institutional Assistantships
NIT Silchar also provides assistantship renewal formats for M.Tech, M.Sc., and Ph.D. students. These forms capture academic performance indicators, registration status, duty records, leave details, disciplinary history, and supervisor or departmental recommendations. For doctoral scholars, progress reports approved by the doctoral committee are mandatory.
